The first month of 2009 is nearly over. President Barack Obama is hard at work in the White House, overturning pieces of Bush administration legislation, etc. The economy is continuing to worsen, both here in the United States and abroad. Israel and Palestine are continuing to fight.
On a much more personal note, I’ve made a few resolutions. There are the usual couple — lose weight, write more often — but this year I’ve added volunteering, reading more of the Bible, and not fretting about things I can’t control or change, among others. I feel almost silly that I’ve resolved to make Christ the center of my life; that seems to me a situation that should always have been, but it hasn’t.
It’s difficult going so far. The world is still doing its best to pull my attention away from Him and towards the things of the world, its worries and goings-on. Granted, some of the world’s concerns are very important, such as the economy, war and the state of peoples around the world, but most of them ultimately are not.
This year, I’m going to be intentional about what I do, how I do it, and why. I am going to figure out what is truly important, and act accordingly. This might very well be the year I get Estela off the ground in the real world, the year that I finish Getting Hammered. This will be the year that I put Christ first.
So help me God. 🙂
